Emma Cleary

Writer. My short fiction has appeared in Lighthouse Literary JournalShooter Literary Magazine, and Salt Publishing’s Best British Short Stories 2015. I was runner up for the Ambit Magazine Summer Writing Competition for flash fiction, 2015.

PhD. My doctoral thesis addresses representations of the city in African American, Caribbean, and Black Canadian literature and orature, with a focus on mapping and sonic schemas. I teach English Literature and Creative Writing. I have reviewed for MELUS and Wasafiri. My essay on James Baldwin’s intimate cartographies of New York won the Graduate Student Essay Prize from James Baldwin Review.

From Liverpool, I now live in Vancouver, BC.
